Bay of Plenty Energy has been part of the region and a keen supporter of our local community for over 30 years. Based in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, we maintain a long-term view of our customer relationships and have a vested interest in the wellbeing of our community. This view is supported in both the personalised service that we offer to our customers and our wider role as a part of our community. We are not "just another power company".
As well as directly supporting local schools, sponsoring sports events and community initiatives, Bay of Plenty Energy also plays a major role in the regional economy. Through the employment of over fifty local people, utilising other local suppliers where possible and working closely with the Eastern Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Whakatane WOW Business forum, we make a significant investment into our region every year. Bay of Plenty Energy Cancer Centre
When a local community needed to raise over $1 million to build a much-needed cancer treatment facility, Bay of Plenty Energy got behind the cause and helped make the project a reality. Project Hope was the name given to the community commitment to raise funds for a new cancer treatment facility in Whakatane. With a fundraising target of $1.1 million, this ambitious project that was co-ordinated by the Bay Health Foundation and received tremendous support from Eastern Bay of Plenty individuals, organisations and businesses. The overwhelming support from within the community reinforced Bay of Plenty Energy’s decision to become a cornerstone sponsor of this worthy community project that promised to make a significant and ongoing difference to cancer sufferers and those close to them. The Bay of Plenty Energy Cancer Centre (as the centre is now known) is a totally dedicated facility designed to offer improved cancer treatment services for the area and reduce the need for sufferers and their families to travel to distant centres for treatments during an already difficult time. It is a local facility that offers medical advice and treatment, integrated and complementary therapies, counselling and information in comfortable, attractive surroundings. Bay of Plenty Energy supports many community projects, including local schools, hospice and special events that contribute to the overall well being of the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The Bay of Plenty Energy centre is an important addition to the ongoing commitment to the community. Bay of Plenty Energy and Todd Energy are proud to assist the treatment of cancer patients with a facility that is set to provide benefit to the community for many years to come.
Supporting our Local SchoolsBy investing in schools and education we are helping our young people realise their potential for the long-term benefit of our region. Every year Bay of Plenty Energy invests in the future of our region through the support of schools and our young people such as the funding and promotion of school prize givings, Books In Homes, Truant-line, the local Science Fair, funding school equipment and aiding with a wide range of fundraising initiatives. Books In Homes with BOPE
We are also proud sponsors of the Books in Homes program through five local primary schools. This program addresses "booklessness" in homes and recognises that children with reading difficulties are seriously disadvantaged in our society and often become adults who cannot communicate. Visit the Books in Homes program web site at www.booksinhomes.org.nz for further details on this worthwhile initiative. Truant-lineTruant-line is a free phone service provided by the Truancy Service that makes it simple for families to communicate directly with truancy officers. The officers work closely with Community Policing and the phone line - funded by Bay of Plenty Energy - helps ensure confidentiality for all involved.
"The free-phone number has removed a barrier for those needing to get hold of us and has lead to a marked increase in calls - allowing us to remain better informed and able to provide a more complete service to the community.", said Mr Brady, Truancy co-ordinator for the Eastern Bay. Powering Local Sports
Every year Bay of Plenty Energy supports a wide range of sports and events within our region at all levels - from rowing, fishing, hockey and local fun-runs to the World Championship Jetboat sprints. Bay of Plenty Energy is proud to be the principal sponsor of the annual Toi's Challenge. This multi-sport event attracts competitors from around New Zealand and from further a field.
