Local Energy Team Open For Business - 21 June 2004

Bay of Plenty Energy's new call centre opened for business in Whakatane this Monday providing a true local service for power customers in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

David Bulley, general manager, said that the move reflected Bay of Plenty Energy's focus on providing a superior level of service to their locally based customers while supporting the community in which they operate.

"Over 95% of our customers are within the Greater Bay of Plenty and employing a team from within our community means that when they contact us they are speaking with a local person, just like them", said Mr Bulley. "Utilising local knowledge allows us to offer a highly personalised service that is not possible for an outside company based in a major city such as Auckland or Christchurch."

Mr Bulley said that the move reflected customer feedback on the importance of a local team and would allow Bay of Plenty Energy to offer additional services to meet the specific needs of their customers. The move of the call centre and billing function brings the number employed by Bay of Plenty Energy in their Commerce Street offices to close to fifty including meter reading, generation and support teams.

Mr Bulley also commended the work of local contractors who were instrumental in getting the new centre completed on time.

"We are proud to work with other local suppliers wherever practical and their support was key to getting our new customer care centre up and running", said Mr Bulley. "Overall, through the use of local suppliers, employment and our support of key community initiatives such as Truant Line and Books in Homes, we invest millions of dollars into this region every year. This remains an important part of who we are."
