Win Comes in Time For Long Weekend - 26 January 2007

Winning a pair of 'Feel Free Move' kayaks in the Bay of Plenty Energy Summer 'Energy Matters' promotion made the long weekend even better for the Dodson family of Whakatane.

Keryn Dodson said she doesn't usually enter competitions, but when she saw that the prize was a pair of kayaks she decided to give it a go.

"Our family loves camping and the beach - it's great for the kids. We had been thinking about getting a kayak for a long time when the competition came along.

I'd forgotten I'd entered so I was really surprised when I got the call from Mahia at Bay of Plenty Energy to tell us we'd won. I never win anything, so it took a while to sink in. We're going camping over the long weekend and now we've got two kayaks to take with us. We're really looking forward to giving them a go", she said.

Mahia Bennett, Account Manager with Bay of Plenty Energy, says this is the third year they have given away an outdoor package in conjunction with Brent Smith of Whakatane Great Outdoors.

"Our summer giveaways are proving more and more popular. We had 1000's of entries for the competition which was open to all of our customers. With the kayak package Brent put together for us valued at over $1600.00 it created a lot of excitement."

The summer giveaway is only one of the promotional activities Bay of Plenty Energy carries out over the year and complements their support of local groups, organisations and causes.
